Feel Cute Wearing a Beanie - Even If You’re Not a “Hat Person”

Well, it's officially winter and if you’re anything like me, you probably own more than a few beanies. Maybe you’ve collected them over the years… and maybe they’re sitting in a drawer because you’re not quite sure how to wear them without feeling awkward.

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone!
That’s exactly why I created this video - so you can feel confident, cute, and comfortable wearing your beanies instead of leaving at home.

I’m sharing several easy, low-effort ways to style your hair with a beanie. No complicated techniques, no perfection required. Just real-life, wearable looks that actually work. In fact, you've probably even seen me wearing a few of these styles!

Why Trust Me on This?

Fun fact: Way before I became a receptionist and before crocheting took over my life, I was a hairstylist for 12 years. While I keep my own hair routine very simple these days (burnout is real!), I still love practical styling tips, especially ones that pair beautifully with handmade crochet.

I wear beanies almost daily once the weather cools down, and these are the exact styles I rely on for work, errands, and casual fall outings.

1. The Easiest Look: Hair Down, Bangs Pinned Back

This is my go-to for a casual, effortless vibe.

If you want to wear your hair down but hate having it in your face:

  • Pin your bangs or front layers back with bobby pins or a small clip

  • Pop on your beanie and gently squish and shape it until it feels right

  • Give your hair a quick brush or finger-comb and you’re done

This look is comfortable, stays put all day, and feels very relaxed. It's perfect for everyday wear.

Best for: Workdays, running errands, low-maintenance comfort

2. Bangs Down + Beanie (Cute but Intentional)

If you want a slightly more styled look:

  • Part your hair on the side that feels most natural

  • Lightly pin one side to reduce bulk

  • Leave the other side loose to frame your face

  • Add your beanie with the seam in the back

This style is great for showing off earrings or adding a little personality without going over the top.

Best for: Shopping days, social plans, casual outings
Not my favorite for work (hair in the face drives me bonkers)

3. Asymmetrical Ponytail or Braid

This is one of my absolute favorites.

Here’s how it works:

  • Pull your hair into a low, loose ponytail off to one side

  • Put your beanie on after positioning the ponytail

  • Let the beanie rest right over the hair tie

You can leave it as a ponytail or braid it for a softer, more boho look. Once the beanie is on, everything looks intentional. Even if it felt a little awkward beforehand.

Best for: Cozy fall & winter vibes, handmade beanies, casual outfits
Bonus: Makes hair look fuller and more styled with minimal effort

4. Double Low Ponies or Braids (Playful + Cozy)

This look feels very cold weather friendly and fun:

  • Create two low, loose ponies or braids

  • Keep hair ties simple so the focus stays on the beanie

  • Place your beanie slightly more centered and fluff the back

It pairs beautifully with flannels, denim jackets, and cozy energy

Best for: Weekend fun, family outings, fall & winter activities

5. The “Hide It All” Slouchy Beanie Look

Bad hair day? No problem.

You can:

  • Pull your hair into a low pony or bun

  • Tuck it into a slouchy beanie

  • Leave a bit of bangs or face-framing pieces out if you like

This gives a surprisingly polished look without effort and works beautifully with handmade crochet beanies.

Best for: No-wash days, busy mornings, maximum comfort

A Few Gentle Styling Tips to Remember

  • Don’t over-style: crochet beanies shine best with simple hair

  • Always shape and adjust your beanie once it’s on

  • Looser styles almost always look better under a hat

  • Comfort matters just as much as how it looks

Handmade items are meant to be worn, loved, and lived in. Not stressed over.

Here’s to feeling cute, cozy, and confident this winter...one beanie at a time!
